In Alaska and much of the interior, if its dark and clear, you will see the Northern Lights. What varies is the colors and brightness that you will see. Finding good locations or stumbling upon great ones are two of my favorite things throughout the winter months. The most active times for the aurora are the beginning and ending months of winter, these are also the warmer and more enjoyable times, however a great storm still happens in between those months.

This collection as well as the Aurora Borealis book is a selection of some of my favorite nights and locations. Sometimes the lights are as surprising as Alaskan weather, and sometimes they’re as predictable as the setting sun.
