Archaeology

Archaeological Excavations at a prehistoric site within the Tanana River Basin in the summer of 2017.

Field crews were flown approximately 20 miles from the nearest town of Delta Junction to excavate a prehistoric site on a tall bluff edge at risk of eroding into the river below.

Many archaeological sites are located in areas that posses a great vantage point of the surrounding areas (usually hills or bluffs) and have access to abundant resources. The resources change seasonally, however, closeness to water in the form of rivers or lakes and sometime both are even more ideal locations.
